London Olympics a boost for the UK

South Africa competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation’s sixth consecutive appearance at the Olympics in the post-apartheid era. The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) sent a total of 125 athletes to the Games, 67 men and 58 women, to compete in 17 sports.

Notable South African athletes featured track stars Oscar Pistorius and Caster Semenya, who both became the nation’s greatest highlight to the Games. Pistorius, a four-time Paralympic champion, set South Africa’s historical record as the first double-leg amputee to compete at the Olympics. Semenya, a middle-distance runner and a world champion who had been subjected to gender testing in 2009, became the nation’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony.

For the first time in its history, South Africa had won Olympic medals in rowing and in sprint canoeing. The South African team also featured past Olympic medalists, including swimmer Roland Mark Schoeman, who won a full set of medals in Athens, and long jumper Godfrey Khotso Mokoena

dblo associates residential architects London announce changes to Planning fees in England

Planning fees in England are increasing by 15% on 22nd November.

The Planning Portal has made the necessary changes to its fee calculator to take this increase into account.

The fee calculator will reflect the new fee structure on Thursday 22nd November.

The planning fee increase was determined by the Department for Communities and Local Government and was communicated to English local planning authorities last week.

We have spend 2 days in Streatham this week to bits and pieces for one of our existing clients.

On the electrical side we have fitted new light switches and units and replaced bulbs. We have also carried out repairs to a faulty doorbell.
We then tiled the box unit in the bathroom and removed and resealed the edge of the bath.
We have investigated a condensation problem, applied filler to the wall along the stairs where a previous lodger was rather careless when moving furniture etc.
And finally in the kitchen we painted the door frame and installed a new mixer tab.

EXCITING CHANGES TO THE RUMM ORGANISATION
We are extremely pleased to announce the promotion of Dr Russell Payne to the newly created position of Operations Director with responsibility for all functions within RUMM with the exception of Sales.

Russell joined RUMM in 2006 as an Energy Account Manager and progressed quickly to become team leader and more recently Operations manager. He has been instrumental in developing the management reporting systems and customer care programs which are fundamental to a growing business such as RUMM.

In addition Dr Stephen Lloyd one of the co-founders and board member of RUMM has taken up the full time position of Key Accounts Director where his career in industrial energy management and latterly research activity will be fully utilised to further develop the RUMM methodology and services for our valued clients.

Russell and Steve along with Jamie Watkins will report directly to me as we anticipate additional business growth over the coming years.

RUMM continues to provide bespoke Energy Management Solutions across the UK and Europe.
